Hardware requirements generally fall into two categories:

Routine Upgrades / Repairs which in the main covers RAM Memory and Hard Drive issues

-   Serious Upgrades / Repairs which covers more serious issues associated with broken screens, damaged power jack sockets and other problems related to the laptop's motherboard.

Problems associated with RAM Memory and Hard Drives are normally dealt with in-house and depending on the availability of parts these repairs or upgrades can be dealt with fairly quickly.

However, more serious problems that often involve laptops that have suffered some form of physical damage caused by the machine being dropped or in some way mishandled i.e. accidently pressing the LCD Screen causing it to bleed, require a more complicated examination and replacement of damaged parts.

If the motherboard is defective, this will require that an identical model be acquired in order to ensure that there no compatibility issues exist when it is installed, which can take sometime to complete and depending on the Make and Model of the laptop this particular repair can sometimes be quite expensive in relation to the age of and original cost of the system.

Many of the hardware defects associated with the ownership of laptops can be avoided by taking the following precautions:

-   When inserting the power supply plug into the laptop's Jack Socket care should be taken that it is does not hang at an angle or can be easily knocked causing damage to the actual socket.

-   The Voltage on replacement power packs MUST match that recommended for the laptop. Failing to observe this can cause serious damage to the motherboard rendering the laptop unusable.

-   Avoid touching the screen as unnecessary presssure can cause the screen to "Bleed" and render it useless.

-   Although laptops are designed to be mobile, they should still be handled with care avoiding unnecessary jolting.

-   When in use ensure that the laptop is seated on a hard surface, this will help air to circulate around the machine and avoid overheating problems.

-   Where possible use a well-padded laptop case when carrying it in public areas in order to provide added protection.
