DATA RECOVERY AND IMAGING
Back-up and Recovery
What do you do when your Windows operating system
fails to start, or your valuable data (Photographs, music, personal data files)
suddenly disappears following a system crash. Do you have a
"Disaster Recovery Plan?"
We seem to take for granted that our computer systems will run and run, but
disaster can strike at anytime, and in many cases we are not prepared for the
consequences of the resulting losses associated with system failures. However, a
simple backup schedule could save you from all the heartache.
The majority of computer systems both domestic and business have some kind of
recording device installed, that will allow data, music or photographs to be
transferred to either a CD or DVD-ROM disk. Recordable CDs and DVDs are
available in several categories. CDs can hold about 700 MB of data,
whereas DVDs can store about 4.7 GB of data, and a new style of DVD-ROM known as
DVD-DL (Dual Layer), can hold up to 8.5 GB of data. Regularly copying data
stored on a computer to a CD or DVD is a basic form of carrying out backups
and it is a practice that is recommended to all users. The image below
illustrates some of the methods currently used to backup data from a client
computer.
RECOVERY
After having failed to back-up your data,
music or video collection, have you ever been faced with a hard
drive that has suddenly become defective for no apparent reason,
leaving you with no easy way of accessing the data that is more
than likely still intact on the defective drive.
Data recovery services can be very expensive, however, we at
Computech 2000 will do all that we can to recover as much data
as is possible from a defective drive, and as economically as
possible. Using specialised software and tried and tested
techniques we already have a high success rate in achieving data
recovery for many of our customers.
Using unique data recovery software, we are even able to recover
data from a hard drive that has been formatted or had a new
version of Windows installed.
Furthermore, if we FAIL to recover ANY
data from a defective hard drive we will NOT
charge a fee for the attempt.
IMAGING
"Imaging" refers to the creation of a electronic
photograph of the contents of a computer's hard drive. Normally this
comprises the Windows installation and any software that has been
installed. If the computer or the hard drive should become defective,
the existence of the image will allow the system to be restored to a
factory default state. It makes the restoration of Windows far easier
and less time consuming, and of course, has the added advantage of restoring all
the application software that was included in the original image.
Using specialised software, images can be quickly created and stored on a
network, local drive or on CD.DVDs, which can be later accessed using a
specialised BOOT disk, should the Windows operating system fail to
start.
The best time to create a system image is during the installation of a
new Windows operating system and before the computer has been connected
to the Internet, which guarantees that the system is clear of any
external infections. We provide new images for all computers that
we custom build, and for those that come to us for a Windows upgrade or
new installation, which allows users to return their machines to a
default state in a very short space of time.
